Professional Development

The role and focus of all professional development within the Public Schools of Dover and Sherborn is to serve as a conduit of knowledge, information, and services.  We facilitate learning and assist both faculty and staff in maximizing job performance through various programs and offerings. The various initiatives are designed to help all personnel to:

  • Develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to perform effectively in their current positions;
  • Prepare themselves and colleagues to assume new or different responsibilities either in their current position or to meet future goals; and
  • Forge internal and external partnerships to improve organizational effectiveness.

We welcome and encourage visitors to review and use all aspects of the professional development website.  We thank our three school committees and of course all parents/guardians and taxpayers for their ongoing support of the Public Schools of Dover Sherborn.

We welcome and encourage interested parties to visit each school’s curriculum link for building-specific curriculum information.

SUPPORTING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS THROUGH CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS

2016-2017 Dover Sherborn Professional Development

Language-based instructional strategies, Challenge Success, Articulating Instructional Approaches and Opportunities for all Learners, Using Assessment to Inform Instruction

The Public Schools of Dover and Sherborn continues to focus on educating the whole child – socially, emotionally, and academically. We continue to articulate instructional approaches and opportunities to ensure curricula access for all students, by training educators around intervention (remediation and challenge) and language-based instructional practices and strategies. In the area of assessment, all educators will administer common measures, an assessment that is administered to all students and analyzed by educators to identify areas of strength and areas for growth. To support our students’ social and emotional wellness, all schools will participate in the Challenge Success Program and our middle and high school will continue with the Social Norming campaign that was launched last year.

The staff will continue to focus on the implementation of the Dover Sherborn educator evaluation protocols, based on the Dover Sherborn Professional Growth and Evaluation System. Educators will develop SMART goals for student learning and professional growth and use data from common measures to inform instruction.
