Learning Objectives:

1.      Review social, economic and political causes for European exploration and settlement of the Americas.

2.      Compare and contrast the reasons for founding New England, Southern and Middle American colonies.  

3.      Understand the impact of colonization on Native American population and culture.

4.      Understand different levels of opportunity and power in colonial society. 

5.      Understand the difference between primary and secondary sources and the importance of primary sources in the study of history. 

 

Skills:

1.      Define and identify types of primary and secondary sources. 

2.      Identify the author, date and type of primary source from clues in text or image.

3.      Define and classify different colonial occupations and people into social classes in the American colonies.

4.      Locate, label and code Southern, Middle and New England colonies on blank map.
