Dover-Sherborn Community Education is seeking a Director for the Extended Day after school program at Chickering School in Dover, Massachusetts.   This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to be independently responsible for the daily proceedings of the extended day program, staff and the Kindergarten through 5th grade students.  The Director’s duties include but are not limited to:  planning, implementing and participating in the program’s activities, maintaining accurate records, ordering supplies and equipment, arranging special events, registering students, hiring, training and evaluating staff and coordinating program needs with the school administration and staff.  Schedule follows the school calendar (10 months, with some summer hours); extended day closes at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Start Date: August 19, 2013

 

Salary: $42,958 - This is a full benefit position

Responsibilities Include: Supervising and active involvement with children in all aspects of their day, supervising assistant teachers, classroom set up/clean up, planning and implementing daily projects, activities, etc.

 

Requirements Include: Previous work experience with 3rd-5th grade children, strong leadership skills, positive attitude, reliable, cooperative, flexible, energetic, creative, organized, efficient, hard-working, team-oriented and self-starter.

 

Start Date: August 19th

 

Hours: Monday through Friday 12:00-6:15

 

Early Release Wednesday (2x per month) 11:00-6:15

Salary:  $14.05 per hour

Job Description

Scope of Responsibilities

The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the school health program. Responsibilities include program management, nursing services, collaboration, health education, community health, emergency planning, and professional practice. As a nurse registered through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN), the Nurse must adhere to the Nurse Practice Act, pertinent regulations governing nursing practice and standards of care established by the professional organizations.

 

Initial Requirements:

  • A  current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
  • A bachelor's and/or master's degree in nursing
  • A minimum of 2 full years of employment as a Registered Nurse in child health, pediatric nursing or other relevant clinical nursing setting
  • Current CPR and AED certification

Requirements Once Hired:

  • Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health
  • Initial license as an educator through the Department of Education- a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test
  • Work toward Professional license as a school nurse by the Massachusetts Department of Education which includes:
    • possession of an Initial license
    • three years of employment as a school nurse; and completion of one of the following:
    • a) Achievement and maintenance of certification or licensure by a nationally recognized professional nursing association as a school nurse, community health nurse, or a pediatric/family/school nurse practitioner.
    • b) A master’s degree program that may include credits earned in a master’s degree program for the Initial License in community health, health education, nursing, or public health. Achievement of certification by a nationally recognized professional nursing association as a school nurse, community health nurse, or a pediatric/family/school nurse practitioner.
