Working with Ms. Valerie Spriggs, Superintendent, and Ms. Christine Tague, Business Manager, and the entire administrative team, a number of initiatives are underway within the Dover Sherborn Public Schools. Without the support of our three school committees, the unwavering dedication of our parents/guardians, the talent and expertise of our faculty and staff, and the commitment of our many community stakeholders, however, none of our initiatives would be possible. The Dover Sherborn Public Schools enjoy enormous success and accomplishment because of the unparalleled partnership among all stakeholders. The growth, development, and success of each of the 2,100 students entrusted to our care on a daily basis for the purpose of providing a stellar educational experience resides at the core of our mission: To inspire, challenge and support all students as they discover and pursue their full potential. At the direction of and in collaboration with the Superintendent, the office of the Assistant Superintendent oversees ten areas of the schools’ operation, including: Ø Professional Development Ø Curriculum Ø Human Resources Ø MCAS Ø Grants Ø METCO Ø Early Childhood Education Ø English Language Learning (ELL) Ø Home Schooling Ø School Safety and Emergency Planning As our website develops in the coming months, you will see and be able to read and learn more about, and possibly contribute to, each of the aforementioned areas. As we look to implement the Strategic Plan authored during the 2009-10 school year through the lens of the areas overseen by my office, we continuously seek 1) The development of an inclusive leadership model promoting instructional improvement; 2) The implementation of rigorous, standards-based curricula, effective instructional practices, and technology-infused instruction; 3) Professional development planning around district, school, and department goals as defined by desired student achievement outcomes; 4) Stakeholder accountability, involvement, and communication; 5) The allocation of district and school resources to support growth and achievement for all students; and 6) Fostering a school culture and climate focused on individualization through which students are nurtured academically and socially, and are recognized for their achievements and talents. We thank all stakeholders for their tremendous commitment to the Dover Sherborn Public Schools. It is not only a joy, but also a privilege to serve in such remarkable communities. Sincerely, Steven B. Bliss |
