Q. What is Aspen and the Family Portal? Aspen is a Student Information Management System created by X2 Development Corporation. The Dover Sherborn Public Schools use Aspen to manage student information including grading, scheduling, attendance, discipline, and other data. Parents\guardians can log into Aspen to view information about their children. Q. I have not received a username and password. How can I get one? All parents/guardians of middle school and high school students were provided a username and password to the Aspen Family Portal during the 2010-2011 school year. If you are new to the Dover Sherborn Schools you can obtain a Request for Aspen Account Form” from the guidance office. You should receive a Welcome letter that will include your username and password once this account has been created. Q. How do I login to the Aspen Family Portal? The website is https://www.x2dev.net/dover-sherborn A Quick Link to the Aspen Family Portal is available on the middle school and high school main webpages. Q. Why do I get a message stating “Your account has been disabled”? After three unsuccessful login attempts your account will be disabled. You must contact the middle/high school front office to request your account be “enabled”. Q. I cannot remember my password. What can I do to reset it? You should click on the “I forgot my password” link on the Aspen Login page. As long as you have a correct email address on the system and have created a security question you will be able to automatically receive a new password via email. Q. When I click on the “I forgot my password” link, I get the following message: Your account has not been configured for self-service password recovery. Please contact your system administrator. You must contact the IT Department via email at familyportal@doversherborn.org to request a password reset. Once you have a new password, login to Aspen and click on “Set Preferences” in the upper right corner next to Log Off. Then click on the “Security Preferences” tab and create a security question. If you forget your password again, you will now be able to automatically retrieve it by clicking on the “I forgot my password” link. Q. I cannot find my child’s Interim Report or Report Card. Where is it? The middle school and high school Interim Reports are published in the family portal based on specific dates determined by the administration. All parents/guardians will receive a reminder email message as part of the weekly email blast that the report is available in the family portal. At Interim Report time you should select the student that you would like to run the Interim Report for by clicking on the students’ name. The report will now appear under the reports menu as MS Interim Report or HS Interim Report. This report requires you to have installed on your computer Adobe Reader and also requires the browser pop-up blocker be disabled (see below). Please note that these reports are school specific and you will not be able to run the HS Interim report against a middle school student and vice versa. Q. When I run the report nothing is displayed on my computer screen? Every browser has its own settings for “blocking pop-up” windows. You must allow pop-ups from the x2.dev/dover-sherborn site in the browser of your choice in order to have the report display correctly. How do I disable the pop-up blocker for a particular site when using : Internet Explorer -Allow Web sites list You can allow pop-up windows to open in a Web site by adding the Web site to the Allowed sites list. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer. 2. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings. 3. In the Address of Web site to allow box, type the address of the Web site, and then click Add. 4. Click Close. Mozilla Firefox Mozilla's pop-up blocker is integrated into the browser, much like the pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. To disable the pop-up blocker: 1. Open the Tools menu and click on Options. 2. Click on the Web Features icon in the list on the left. 3. Remove the checkmark from beside the Block Popup Windows option. 4. Click OK to close the window. Once you are finished, you can go back into the menu again to turn on the pop-up blocker. Safari Select the Shift+ command +K buttons on your keyboard in order to disable the pop-up blocker for the site you are on in Safari Q. The Interim Report is no longer available in the family portal. I must have missed the date. How can I obtain a copy? Please contact the middle school or high school guidance office for a copy of your child’s Interim Report.
