This section of this course will focus on learning the fundamentals of database concepts and management. We will cover Chapters 12 - 14 in the text book, A Guide to Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. Schedule / Assignments Introducing the Relational Database
1. This
PowerPoint serves as a quick explanation as to what a database
is and what it can be used for. Chapter 12: Introducing the Relational Database I’ve covered just about everything in this chapter during class discussion. However, if you don’t feel that you’ve mastered the material, it would benefit you to review the material contained in Chapter 12. You are responsible for the following assignments in Chapter 12: Create the Backpacks Relational Database: Practices 2, 3 & 4 Please do not print anything out at this time.................. Chapter 13: Relational Database Techniques I’ve covered just about everything in this chapter during class discussion. However, if you don’t feel that you’ve mastered the material, it would benefit you to review the material contained in Chapter 13. A) Please continue developing the Backpack database (that you started in Chapter 12) as outlined below. Review sections 13.1 &
13.2 B) Please do not print anything out at this time! Instead, please copy the Backpack data base over to the appropriate folder within the class share folder. Before you copy your database to the class share folder, please rename your database so that it includes your last name . For example, I would rename my Backpacks.mbd database to, Alighieri-Backpacks.mdb.
In order to complete the requirements for Chapter 14, you'll first need to download the Pack Suppliers database and save it in your My Documents folder. Using the Pack Suppliers database, please do the following: Review sections 14.1 & 14.2 3. Exercise #10- Pizza Palace - I will hand this out in class. A) You will complete Parts A, B and C of Exercise 10, the Pizza Payroll . (Do not do Part A, item h or Part C, item d). B) When completed, you will copy this database over to the class share folder- do not print anything. Before you copy your database to the class share folder, please rename your database so that it includes your last name . For example, I would rename my Pizza Payroll database to, Alighieri Pizza Payroll.mdb. 4. Getting to Know your Classmates: Student Database A) As outlined in the instructions, develop a database using data about your classmates as input. Instructions and data will be handed out in class.
